What is a Carbon Offset?
A carbon offset is a reduction in emissions of carbon dioxide or some other greenhouse gas. Carbon Offsets are generated by projects that prevent the release of, reduce, or remove carbon emissions from the air. They are meant to counteract or compensate for emissions made because of other business or personal activities.
Offsets are measured in tons of carbon dioxide equivalent. One ton of carbon offset represents the reduction of one ton of carbon dioxide or its equivalent.
